i dont want to try installing it only to find that i cant use the key that came with the computer, windows 7 pro 64 bit came preinstalled and i want to keep that version (and key) from the manufacturer on the laptopi have had problems in the past with the reinstalls on machines that had OEM verions of windows preinstalled on the box.. any ideaS? will i be able to use the license on the bottom of the computer if i get a copy of windows 7 pro? will i need an 'oa' (what is that anyway?) version?

Lost your Recovery; is that the Disk or partition?
This will do the job for you (the file numbers will work):
Download the correct ISO file and make your own disk and use the Product Key that is on the COA Sticker.
And Neosmart has instructions on how to burn ISO images to disk using imgburn:
Using the downloaded ISO file Method may require phone Activation.
If it does require phone Activation, do not follow the Auto Prompts, but hold on for a real person to explain to as to what has been done for re-installation purposes

The above method also will require you to go to your Computer Manufacturer's website > Support and Downloads Section > locate your Model Number and Operating System > then download and install the latest Drivers for it.

And you should also have a Recovery partition on your Hard Drive, if that was not what you meant was lost or possibly unuseable Recovery;
Here are the Key/s to press at Boot to start the Recovery Process back to Factory Settings (new condition). Under each Manufacturer in the list below are the instructions in the respective links for you to follow on how to use their Recovery Partition
