Aug 06, 2018  Looking for Win10 driver for an HP dvd840 Have a HP DVD840 in a case that runs via USB port. BIOS sees the drive just fine, but Windows 10, and in fact, when I had Win8.0 & Win 8.1, Windows did NOT recognize the dvd.

I recommend you to go to the Disk Management and check if the drive are detecting on the system.

Press Windows + R and type diskmgmt.msc on the box and hit Enter.

The issue you are facing could be due to the external DVD drive is not compatible with Windows 10. Let’s try simple troubleshooting steps and check if this helps in resolving the issue. Follow the below methods.

Method 1.

I would suggest you to run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter to diagnose the exact issue.

1. Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel.

2. Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.

If the above method did not help to fix the issue, try the below method.

Method 2.

If the issue still persist, I suggest you to go to the DVD/ CD-ROM drives manufacturer website and download the latest updated DVD/ CD-ROM drives driver and install the same. If the available driver is not for Windows 10 you try install the driver in compatibility mode.

1. Right-click on the setup file of the driver and select Properties.

2. Select Compatibility tab.

3. Check Run this program in Compatibility mode.

4. Let the driver install and then check the functionality.
